90 Day Fiancé: 10 Things You Need To Know About Memphis Smith

Memphis Smith has been in the news lately, after viewers suspected she and her husband, Hamza Moknii, were fired from the 90 Day franchise. Internet sleuths believe Memphis' run-in with the show's production team during the 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days "Tell-All" episode sealed the couple's fate. Rumor has it that Memphis and Hamza were supposed to be on the new season of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? but were not invited back after clashing with production.

Audiences first met Memphis on the fifth season of the 90 Day Fiancé spinoff series when she flew to Tunisia to wed her fiancé, Hamza, whom she'd met online just a few months earlier. While Memphis' personality may be divisive, her impressive ability to overcome challenges and thrive in the face of adversity is commendable and has left fans wanting to know more about her.

Memphis' Name Has A Special Meaning

Memphis revealed the meaning of her name in a recent comment on her Instagram page. A fan from Memphis, Tennessee asked the reality star if her parents were from the city as well. She responded, "I was born in Memphis." She didn't elaborate, but her answer left fans wondering why her parents were in Memphis, as the 90 Day cast member is from Michigan.

Nashville may be the capital of Tennessee, but Memphis is a popular tourist destination. The city is celebrated as the "Home of the Blues" and the "Birthplace of Rock and Roll." Elvis Presley's Graceland is in Memphis, and Stax Records was formed there. There are plenty of reasons the reality star's parents could have been there.

Memphis Is A Mother Of Three

Memphis is very private when it comes to her children, but she did announce the birth of her youngest child, whom she shares with Hamza, earlier this year. Fans suspect the child was born sometime in late 2021. While Memphis didn't offer many details about the child, Hamza's sister, Rawia, confirmed the couple had a daughter.

The couple's daughter will never be lonely as Memphis has two older children, both from previous relationships, as well. While there are many terrible 90 Day parents, Memphis appears to be a loving mother who has created a healthy environment for her children to grow in, despite her own challenging childhood.

Memphis Had A Tough Childhood

Memphis has been candid about the challenges she faced as a child and a young adult. The nurse was removed from her mother's home at the age of 11, as a result of her mother's struggle with addiction and her father's incarceration. Memphis was placed in foster care and, between the ages of 11 and 19, she floated between a dozen foster families, eventually aging out of the system.

Memphis has also talked about being homeless in her past. While she is certainly among the 90 Day stars who deserved better in her early life, she is using her experiences to shape her future. The reality star states in her Instagram bio that she is a "survivor of ALL things that are supposed to DESTROY us!"

Memphis Is A Nurse

Memphis has pursued her nursing career with dedication. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant, a phlebotomist, a Licensed Practical Nurse, and eventually a Registered Nurse, earning her Associates Degree and a Bachelors along the way.

Memphis has since gone back to school for her Masters. She completed grad school in 2020 and is now a board certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In a recent Instagram post Memphis said of nursing, "I am so proud to be a part of a career that saves lives!" The focused reality star was likely filming 90 Day while taking care of her children, exploring her relationship with Hamza, and in school.

Memphis Met Hamza Online

Memphis met Hamza on an international dating site. They formed a romantic connection, became engaged, and soon after meeting online, Memphis flew to Tunisia to get to know her fiancé. She has said of the decision, "I kind of have a wild side and now I'm flying to Tunisia to marry someone I've never met in person."

The couple's relationship moved quickly. Hamza popped the question properly in person during a visit to the ancient village of Zriba Olia. The romantic scene easily made their moment one of the best 90 Day proposals. Memphis spent almost a month in Tunisia, during which time the couple got married, had a honeymoon, and conceived their daughter.

Memphis Was Married Before Hamza

Memphis never married the father of her oldest child, but she did marry the father of her second child, a man named Justin Sandoval, in 2014. That same year she gave birth to their son. The marriage lasted about a year and ended with the reality star filing for divorce in late 2015. However, Justin is still a part of Memphis' life, as the two co-parent and share custody of their son.

Furthermore, Memphis admitted to Hamza that she'd recently spent a few days at Justin's house with her children, after a period of depression rendered her unable to care for her family. Hamza was angry with her confession but ended up understanding the extenuating circumstances.

Memphis Doesn't Plan On Changing Her Religion

Unlike many 90 Day couples with different religious upbringings, neither Memphis nor Hamza appears to be asking their partner to convert. Many fans wondered if Hamza would request that Memphis convert to Islam but, according to Memphis, religion was never a dealbreaker for either of them.

On an Instagram reel reposted by truecrime-jankieMemphis insisted, "At the end of the day, I am not a practicing Muslim, nor have I ever stated that I was...nor have I ever been asked to convert, nor have I ever said that I would convert, okay?" Not much is known about the couple's new baby, but based on Memphis' comments, they're likely not raising the baby to be Muslim either.

Memphis has been vocal about regretting her time on 90 Day Fiancé. She blames boredom and being tipsy for her decision to apply. Recently on Instagram, Memphis explained, "Well, to be honest I was sitting at home and I was bored drinking a Truly hence I don't drink much but I guess it had me too relaxed and started typing." The reality star joked, "After that I said no more Truly ever!"

Many of Memphis' complaints about the show revolve around the way she was portrayed. After a fan suggested she should have known what she was getting into, she replied, "Being a viewer is different than going through the process and not knowing what the results will be!"

Memphis Doesn't Get Along With Hamza's Family

90 Day Fiance Before the 90 Days Memphis and Rawia

Memphis didn't become friends with Hamza's mother or his sister during her time in Tunisia. Hamza's mother asked the couple to sleep separately out of respect for her household and her Islamic faith. However, the two ignored her rules and snuck around for some "sexy time." When Hamza's mother found out, she was understandably offended and the two argued.

There are many terrible 90 Day family members, but Hamza's sister, Rawia, who is also not a fan of Memphis, seems genuinely concerned for her brother. Rawia regularly takes to Instagram to call Memphis out on her alleged lies, and to attempt to explain her brother's side of the story. Additionally, the star has been criticized by fans for her ignorance of Islamic culture, such as the time Memphis demanded bacon while in Tunisia.

Memphis Clashed With 90 Day Producers

Memphis has been extremely critical of 90 Day's producers. Video was recently leaked of Memphis yelling at producers before exiting the Tell-All in the middle of filming. According to the reality star, she fell ill while filming and went backstage in an attempt to recover. She confronted producers for allowing the cameraperson to film her while she was sick, after asking not to be on camera.

The argument resulted in a screaming match in which Memphis stated that the producers lacked integrity. Memphis has since called the series "the Devil's work" on her Instagram account, suggested the show is scripted, and accused producers of editing scenes to make her appear villainous.
