The most recent Minecraft DLC is available on the Minecraft Marketplace as of July 26 and centers around a collaborative crossover with Nickelodeon's popular television series SpongeBob SquarePants. Not only does it allow players to explore the town of Bikini Bottom, pulling locations straight out of the show itself, but it also lets them meet and even play as iconic SpongeBob characters. All-in-all, the DLC includes a handful of missions to complete, an expansive map, and 40 new SpongeBob-themed skins for fans to make use of.
The SpongeBob SquarePants DLC for Minecraft was first announced in the end of June. Although it's the latest of the game's crossovers, it's by no means the only one. Minecraft has released packs based on everything from DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon franchise to Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series. Each tends to come with full-sized maps and missions that let players team up with some of their favorite characters. There are also usually new customization options that can be unlocked.SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The SpongeBob DLC was also announced alongside a new Minecraft build challenge, which wrapped up mid-way through July, though the winners have yet to be revealed. Also released was a free Minecraft character creator item, which can be claimed starting on July 26 all the way up to September 27. The SpongeBob SquarePants DLC costs 1340 coins and can be purchased through the official Minecraft Marketplace alongside other DLC. Any players who pay to unlock the DLC will have all 40 character skins added to their account as well as the free customization item.
Every Playable SpongeBob SquarePants Character In Minecraft's New DLC
The SpongeBob characters in the newest Minecraft DLC aren't technically playable. Instead, players simply work alongside them to complete missions. However, the skins that are themed after the show's characters can at least let SpongeBob fans feel as though they're playing as them. Of the 40 SpongeBob skins in Minecraft, quite a few are simply outfit variations rather than entirely new characters. They include:
- Goofy and Goober, two original characters
- SpongeBob SquarePants, Krusty Krab SpongeBob, Primitive Sponge, Purple Dress SpongeBob, Sleepy Time SpongeBob, Kuddly Krab SpongeBob, and SpongeBob as Mermaid Man
- Patrick Star, Primitive Star, Sleepy Time Patrick, Patrick as Barnacle Boy, and Patrick-Man
- Squidward Tentacles - who has starred in various SpongeBob SquarePants mods for other games - Sleepy Time Squidward, Artist Squidward, Kuddly Krab Squidward, and Squog
- Mr. Krabs and Kuddly Krab Mr. Krabs
- Pearl Krabs and Pearl Prom from the season 1 episode "The Chaperone"
- Chocolate Guy and Mary from the season 3 episode "Chocolate with Nuts"
- Sandy Cheeks
- Sheldon J. Plankton
- Karen Plankton
- Flying Dutchman
- Barnacle Boy
- Mermaid Man
- Mrs. Puff
- Larry the Lobster
- Bubble Bass
- Squilliam Fancyson
- Bubble Buddy
- Old Man Jenkins Jr.
- Dream Gary
Although all of the missions in Minecraft's SpongeBob DLC can be completed fairly quickly, there's still plenty of exploring to do once they've been finished. There are also quite a few other SpongeBob-inspired games that fans of the show can try out afterward, including SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated or the Smash Bros-inspired Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Minecraft players who are simply trying to collect all of the DLC, on the other hand, can explore other new content such as a pack inspired by Pixar's Lightyear.
