Karl Urban Wolverine Deepfake Video Shows Why He Should Lead MCU’s X-Men

Karl Urban becomes the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Wolverine in an incredible X-Men deepfake video. Hugh Jackman first appeared as James Howlett/Logan, a.k.a Wolverine, in 2000’s X-Men—which helped to usher in the contemporary age of comic book movies. Jackman went on to play Weapon X eight times before hanging up his claws in 2017’s Logan, which followed a weary Wolverine as he attempted to protect Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the young X-23 (Dafne Keen). After Disney’s 2019 acquisition of Fox, Logan and his fellow mutants (except Deadpool) are poised to be recast in the MCU on Earth-616.

Urban has appeared in everything from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and J.J. Abrams' Star Trek to comic book movies like 2012’s Dredd and Prime Video’s satirical take on the genre in The Boys. The latter series sees Urban play Billy Butcher, the leader of a vigilante group aimed at exposing corrupt/abusive superheroes. Thanks in large part to the sardonic swagger and tragic bacstory of that character, Urban has become a popular fan-casting choice for the MCU’s Wolverine.

YouTuber Stryder HD shared an impressive X-Men deepfake video. The video sees Urban replacing Jackman’s character in Logan, showing The Boys star taking over as the weathered and poisoned mutant. Check out the incredible deepfake video below:

Although many hold out hope for a cameo in Deadpool 3, Jackman remains adamant he won’t don the claws as Wolverine again. WITH that being the case, fan-casting the role for the MCU has become a regular occurrence. Choices have included Keanu Reeves, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Jon Bernthal, and Taron Egerton. Wolverine is the most revered character to come from Fox’s franchise, which arguably too heavily relied on Jackman’s character. Following Stewart’s return as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the confirmation of MCU mutants in Ms. Marvel, the debut of a new version of the X-Men now feels imminent. However, Kevin Feige and company will likely focus on other characters instead of placing all of the MCU's X-Men bets on Wolverine.

Given Urban’s portrayal of Butcher and his experience with franchise films, he’s certainly not a bad choice for Wolverine. However, Urban is only a few years younger than Jackman (not to mention the fact that he’s already played an MCU character in Thor: Ragnarok). Urban even responded to Wolverine fan-casting demands, saying he’d make more sense for the studios to pick someone who can commit to more than one film. Still, judging by the deepfake, that one film sure would be fun to watch.
