Mortal Kombat 2's Outerrealm Champion Roster (As We Know It)

Who will be Outworld's champions in Mortal Kombat 2? 2021's Mortal Kombat introduced many of the video games' famous characters, with Earthrealm champions such as Cole Young, Jax, Liu Kang, and Sony Blade fighting Outworld villains such as Reptile, Goro, Mileena, and Nitara. Given that Earthrealm claimed a unanimous victory during the events of the first Mortal Kombat movie, Outworld will certainly need new champions.

Outworld is the most diverse of all the Mortal Kombat realms. Its ruler, Shao Kahn, annexed countless different realms and fighters throughout the ages. Some of the species that have been conquered by Outworld include the six-armed Naknada, the insect-like Kytinn, and the tribal Osh-Tekk, which boast renowned fighters such as Kollector, D'Vorah, and Kotal K'etz, respectively. These are only some of the many Mortal Kombat characters who forged an alliance with Outworld, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.

Outworld's champions suffered a humiliating defeat in 2021's Mortal Kombat. Kano ripped out Reptile's heart, Kung Lao split Nitara's head and body in half with his hat, Cole Young slashed Prince Goro in half and stabbed him in the eye, Jax crushed General Reiko's head, Liu Kang burned Kabal to death, and Sonya Blade blasted a hole through Mileena's stomach. To top it off, Sonya also killed Mortal Kombat's Kano after he switched allegiances. With Outworld's ranks spreading thin, there are still many fighters who can come to support Shao Kahn's realm in Mortal Kombat 2.

Kitana

Kitana and Kitana's Fan in Moral Kombat

Kitana is an Edenian Princess who was adopted and raised by Shao Kahn after the Outworld ruler decided to spare her life. After years of serving Shao Kahn, Kitana found out about her true heritage and betrayed him to side with Earthrealm's champions. Considering that the live-action Mortal Kombat franchise is exploring each character's origins, it's likely that Kitana will first act as a villain, possibly still serving Shao Kahn at Outworld. 2021's Mortal Kombat featured one of Kitana's iconic fans as an easter egg, which set up her eventual introduction. However, the most obvious clue that she's an existing character within this universe is Mileena, as the mutant villain is Kitana's Tarkatan clone, designed by Shao Kahn to protect him from Kitana's wrath.

Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn Statue Easter Egg in Mortal Kombat 2021

Outworld's strongest champion is none other than its ruler, Shao Kahn himself. Shao Kahn is a godlike entity that acts as Raiden's dark antithesis. He commands Shang Tsung, and he can absorb souls even more efficiently than him. Besides his sheer strength, Shao Kahn possesses many powerful abilities such as energy manipulation, psychic powers, and the ability to resurrect his subordinates. Shao Kahn is likely to be Mortal Kombat's main overarching villain, as teased by the ominous statue shown at Outworld in the first movie. However, it makes more sense for Mortal Kombat 2 to use a villain like Quan Chi as the big bad before Shao Kahn. Meanwhile, Shao Kahn's can appear as a figure in the shadows in the same vein as Star Wars' Emperor Palpatine or the MCU's Thanos.

Kotal Kahn

Kotal Kahn is a member of the Osh-Takk, one of the species annexed into Outworld by Shao Kahn. Kotal Kahn can be a threat as big as Shao Kahn himself, given that he served as Outworld's emperor while Shao Kahn was dead in the video games. The 2021 Mortal Kombat movie teased Kotal Kahn's introduction with the picture of a golden bust among Sonya Blade's research material. This suggests that Kotal Kahn already left his mark on Outworld, perhaps as an emperor prior to Shao Kahn's rule. Although he's Outworld's pacifist ruler in the source material, Mortal Kombat 2 could make Kotal Kahn one of Outworld's most powerful champions.

Bo' Rai Cho

Liu Kang and Bo Rai Cho in Mortal Kombat

When Liu Kang discloses his past to Cole Young in Mortal Kombat, he namedrops his master Bo' Rai Cho. In the video games, Bo' Rai Cho is a native Outworlder who trains Liu Kang and Kung Lao in martial arts. Bo' Rai Cho is known for his mastery over the Drunken Fist technique, which he uses to deceive his opponents. While Bo' Rai Cho is notably opposed to Shao Kahn's reign of terror, Mortal Kombat 2 could provide a twist by pitting him against his student Liu Kang, furious for not being able to defend Kung Lao.

Motaro

Motaro Easter Egg Clipping in Mortal Kombat 2021

Another one of Mortal Kombat's many easter eggs is an ancient vase depicting a Centaurian, possibly Motaro. The Centaurians are known for looking like a cross between a horse, a bull, a goat, and a human, and also for their impressive height and strength. They aren't quite popular among all of Mortal Kombat's different species since, like the Osh-Takk, they're subservient to Shao Kahn and Outworld. Having said that, Motaro is likely to appear as an Outworld champion in Mortal Kombat 2, as his physique makes him a difficult obstacle for Earthrealm's champions, but he's obscure enough to use as a disposable villain.

Who Could Join Outworld's Fighters In Mortal Kombat 2?

Mileena, Rain, and Baraka in Mortal Kombat's Outworld

While there are no signs of their eventual arrival, Mortal Kombat could introduce iconic Outworld villains such as the Edenian Rain, who was cut from 2021's Mortal Kombat. The sequel also has the chance to introduce Baraka, who would provide a look into the Tarkata, the species Shao Kahn borrows genetic material from to create Mileena. If Mortal Kombat 2 decides to expand on the species that were introduced in the first movie, it could introduce more Saurians like Reptile, perhaps with the shape-shifting Chameleon. Similarly, another Shokan like Kintaro or Shiva could exact revenge for the death of their prince, Goro. The sequel could also reveal Shao Kahn's family before his proper introduction, with the introduction of the Edenians Jade and Sindel, or perhaps it could bring in Skarlet — Kitana and Mileena's other stepsister with complicated family dynamics.

Many Mortal Kombat characters constantly shift allegiances between Earthrealm and Outworld. Depending on which fighters are set to stay in the franchise for the long haul, new Outworld characters can serve as cannon fodder for the franchise's iconic fatalities. Mortal Kombat is also known for resurrecting dead characters or bringing them back as clones, and so it wouldn't be odd to see established characters such as Reptile, Kano, and Mileena come back to life in Mortal Kombat 2 for another round.
