WWE News: Philadelphia Named Host For Landmark WrestleMania 40

On July 27, WWE announced via press release and social media that Philadelphia will be the host of WrestleMania 40. The event is the biggest wrestling show of the year, and the impact on local businesses can't be overstated. Fans flock from all over the globe to witness the spectacle of WrestleMania weekend. The 40th edition of the event will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, which is home to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

Frequently referred to as "The Linc," the stadium seats more than 67,000 people and has been open since 2003. Philadelphia last hosted WrestleMania back in 1999 for the 15th edition of the event. That went down at the Wells Fargo Center, which "only" seats around 20,000 people. It's fair to say that wrestling and WWE have come a long way since that occasion. 'Mania 15 is remembered for the main event, which saw "Stone Cold" Steve Austin square off with The Rock in a no-disqualification match for the then WWF Championship.

As per the press release: "WrestleMania is more than a two-day event; it’s a week-long celebration.  In addition to WrestleMania, other events will include Friday Night SmackDown, the 2024 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and Monday Night Raw at Wells Fargo Center as well as other fan events at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  In addition, WWE will also host multiple community outreach events, including hospital visits and Be a STAR bullying prevention rallies, designed to give back to the local region." The release also notes that WrestleMania has generated more than $1.25 billion in cumulative economic impact for host cities. More than $200 million was generated for the Austin/Arlington region during last year's WrestleMania 38.

WWE Likely To Go Big For WrestleMania 40 In Philadelphia

WWE is building towards SummerSlam this weekend, but fans now know where the landmark WrestleMania 40 will take place. The company always tries to make this week special, but it seems fair to assume that all stops will be pulled out to make the 40th edition truly memorable. Not to take any of the shine off of WrestleMania 39, which is set to take place SoFi Stadium in California, but there's just something special about the marquee event hitting round numbers. Consider WrestleMania 30, where Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker's undefeated streak at the Showcase Of The Immortals. The impact of that booking choice can still be felt today, even though that match happened in 2014.

Philadelphia is among the better wrestling cities in the United States and should be a white-hot crowd through both nights of the event. The Eagles are also partnering with WWE to showcase WrestleMania 40. It's unknown when tickets will go on sale for the experience, but the press release promised that more information would be released soon.
